Topic: New challenge!!

Alright!

I'm thinking of having in the next meet-up a challenge between 2 memebers of the group.

Each member will try to hack other member's laptop and of course each one should protect his.

The challenge will be between xaitax & AdmiralA. Do you both dare to accept this?

There is a poll for people who want this to happen or no

Cheers,
Zak

Re: New challenge!!

If you have physical access to a computer, there's no need to "hack" anything.  So there's no challenge.

Edit: see if you can find some of the recipes to do this on the web...

Re: New challenge!!

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. Can you please explain?

I'm talking here about the following:
Each of the players will use his laptop to hack in the other system through the internet. Where is physical access?!

Example:

PunBB bbcode test
PunBB bbcode test

Re: New challenge!!

The whole idea for this is stupid.

There is a huge difference between having a Linux meetup and a mini hacking convention. We're having a meetup about Linux and our aim is to help out the new users first.

Second, when you're stating "hack each other's laptop," you're not clearly defining the objective. What do you want us to do, gain root? Penetrate a firewall? Crash the machine? Create a hidden account with administrative privileges? Format it? DDoS?

Third, I don't even *have* a laptop as yet.

Fourth, this could take a while, what with xaitax being security conscious and me preferring to take my time on things. I don't rush in with guns blazing; I prefer to use stealthy techniques and I carefully formulate what I have to do.

Fifth, this goes against my hacker ethics. You don't just tell a hacker to "HEY HACK THIS MACHINE AND THAT ONE NEXT" or trick him into doing so by means of a challenge. Hackers don't take over as many systems as they can, and they're not out there to prove themselves.

At least, I'm not out here to prove my skills to some people who would not fully appreciate what I do. If there was something up at DEFCON or another hacker convention, then I'd most likely be up for it because I'd be surrounded by people far greater than I am who would understand everything I do, appreciate it, and put me in the right direction, and the person or team I'm up against would prove to be a real challenge, and the most important point is that I end up learning something.

What do I have to gain over here?
A congratulatory pat on the back, and a sachet of Nescafe My Cup.

I'm sorry, but I decline this 'challenge.' because it really isn't one at all. No offense to xaitax, I'm fairly certain that he's very capable at what he does, but I'm sure he'll agree on the standpoint that 'hacking' other computers for the sake of it is not a worthy pursuit at all.

Let's just pretend I said something amusing here and you consider me awesome for the rest of your life.

linuxhat, you devil.
I'll have to keep my eye on you from now on.

Course, Etisalat blocks that, but any Linux user with a tiny chunk of common sense can bypass those incompetent idiots

And where do you get the right to say they are incompetent idiots?

Apparently everyone is idiot and stupid. You are the only smart person who have the best ideas.

This is my idea, who the hell give you the right to say that it is stupid. If you don't like it, just f** off. It's very simple.

And there is no need for your bullshit explanation ... The idea was simple yet effective, the group was going to see how hacking/pen testing is done as well as protection and security and all this using LINUX and I was going to offer my laptop to whoever doesn't have one (which is you as always)!!!!

I always loved it when you don't talk ... Really, you rarely say something good or positive.
And the other thing I wanted to find in you, is to be yourself. Just be that 18 or 20 f** years old you are. Stop being a teenager who is acting like 30!!!

Last thing. Do yourself a favor and stop replying. You've really said enough Mr. DEFCON Hacker.

You've made my day man. You really did!

I am indeed. Please do, otherwise I'll kill someone and guess with who I'm gonna start.

Re: New challenge!!

Zak, here's the thing. You're temperamental, you get angry and offended way too easily, and you flame me solely on the merit that I called your idea stupid.

If you are unable to take criticism, how do you expect to improve?

This is why it's hard to be friends with you, Zak. If I tell you about something that's wrong with you, you get way too pissed, and you yell your head off at me.

The explanation I have given is very valid. A large proportion of the members of this LUG are relatively new users, so showing them hacking is only going to prove to be little more than something that'll only end up flying over their heads. It's like trying to teach a toddler how to drive when his feet can't even reach the accelerator.

For another point, Zak, I wouldn't accept anyone else's laptop as it may not be configured precisely the way I want it to, and it may be put at an advantage or disadvantage without my knowledge.

As far as I can tell, the only reason you're getting so worked up was because I had called it stupid. If you merely omit that first sentence, the rest remains a fairly valid response. Why get so worked up over one word which doesn't even hold that much weight? If some random stranger in the middle of the street called you stupid, would you take it seriously?

I *am* being myself. Just because I'm not being ridiculously immature does not mean I am pretending to be older. I have no need for conformity and going 'lol hi whtz up' all day like loads of other teenagers. Age has no factor in defining who I am.

Re: New challenge!!

Zak: I'm not going to make this challenge. Makes no sense in this way.

AdmiralA: Normally I agree to you. But who you think you are?

What about you? Pretending *you* are THE linux guy? But surfing with Chrome and Windows XP? ... Of course, you were faking the headers.. *hrhr

Why haven't u ever participating in it? Nobody knows you in it dude.

Nevermore, I like the suggestion that you like and love to learn.
But be more humble.
Isn't itcontradictorily?

Who cares ... wifey is expecting me in bed... hmm
Good night guys.

C u tomorrow.

Re: New challenge!!

I don't expect to show off, but I do nothing of the sort to pretend that I am better than everyone else. Zak merely gets on my nerves very easily, and just because I end up arguing back, I end up being the bad guy because Zak is incapable of defending himself properly.

I'm not going to cover up for the fact that I am surfing on Chrome and windoze at the moment, and have been for the past couple of months because I have had my AS level exams. Had I installed Linux all this while, I would be far more tempted to spend more time on the PC, thus disrupting my study schedule. With windoze on, all I'm likely to do is to surf the web for a bit and play a video game or two. Linux is coming back on in a bit, I can assure you.

I haven't had the chance to go to DEFCON or any other significant hacker expo as yet. I'm 19, still in high school, and even though those are non-important factors, my parents either cannot afford to or do not deem it worthy to pay for a trip to the US to attend such conventions.

I'm sorry that I have given off the impression that I have an ego the size of a flipping mountain, but I can most certainly assure you that is not the case. Zak just happens to be one of the few people who irritates me very easily, and the feeling is mutual.

Let's just pretend I said something amusing here and you consider me awesome for the rest of your life.
