We can do something with Apache and explain how to go about setting up a basic webserver. Then we can go in details if we people are interested smile

Hi Guys,

I think whatever we do, it has be basic at first and slowly build it up in next meetings.

A couple of  things that I can do are as follows :

1. Simple Networking
2. Introductions to Samba and NFS

I can break it up in 2 or 3 meetings.

I will not be able to do this in the up coming meeting but can take it up in the next meeting.

Anybody else wanna step up?

additional topics:

how can we raise more awareness of Linux as a valid / alternate OS, especially in the Netbook space?
examples: AUD, or AUS university presentations, open doors event where people can demo eye candy etc...
tie-up with Open Source providers such as Redhat, or even Google (now with Chrome OS officially announced to be released and open sourced later this year / next year), or Sun Microsystems.

Sounds very interesting, even tough I think it's early for the group. Just my point of view.

Will I be lapidated if I say - I don't care about IE? lol
Especially IE6.

Please have a look now, I changed something in the src.
Does it still look like before?

Neither do I hmm But we gotta do what we gotta do. IE is the standard one in this company mad

It's not fixed yet. If you'll keep trying, it's for other members, I'm fine with the current one since I know how to get it.

There is command in the beigning of this post as shown below but the [ code ] option is hiding it:

A verbose command for downloading the top 3 videos from youtube:

wget http://www.youtube.com/ -O - 2> /dev/null | grep "<a href" | sed 's/.*<a href/<a href/' |cut -f2 -d'"' | grep "popular" | cut -f1 -d'&' | head -n 3 | sed 's/^/http:\/\/youtube.com/' | xargs -i clive {} \;

What would this script do? Can you give us a brief explanation?

Thanks a lot Dan ... Awesome session indeed.

Thanks.

@ AdmiralA: I was referring to HTC Magic. I was in the office and just put a picture of Google phone (No time).

I agree about the Open source principle.

@ lijeesh: It’s not about where the product is coming from. It’s about what it offers. And yes, I LOVE iPhone!

Microsoft is business. It's a company who has to to protect itself from competition.

Whether you want to call it scared or not, to me, they have pure business strategies to protect their market share and that's how business world is...

They have some options, 2 I can think of are:

1/ They can continue with their current strategies and they gonna shutdown after sometime.
2/ Release their own A to Z open source apps, OS etc.... And control a good part of the market

Let's not forget that millions around the world LOVE Microsoft

Which one do you prefer and why?

What are the + and - of each?

To what level they support Linux?

IF you can use a terminal in one of them, will you have all the options you have in a terminal in *nix box?

PLEASE, No stupid posts, no sick comments, if you have something useful to say, you are welcome, otherwise just save us time replying to your sickness!

Thank you.

In all likeliness Zak, he probably meant kernel hacking, since he mentioned kernel compilation right after that.

And hacking isn't always a world of 'illegal access.' Zak, if you really do want to get into hacking, you've got pretty good persistence to get there, but you'll seriously need to change your mindset to accept things beyond what you actually consider is 'hacking.'

Looking forward to the next meetup, guys.

I will leave that to noussh to explain to you.

I was narrowing it to what I'm interested in, i.e. illegal access
Thanks for your point of view.
